9 Hours in Copenhagen, Denmark

I love taking advantage of long layovers whenever I can. One - these tickets typically end up being cheaper. Two - it’s a quick and easy way to see a new country without having to buy another flight. I’ve done a quick day trip with layovers in Rome, London and Bordeaux. They’ve ranged from 8-12 hours and I typically look for an arrival time before 1pm. That way I can leverage as much daylight as possible! I usually travel with a carry-on (yes even for international trips). In Copenhagen’s Central Station, there are lockers available through out the day! I paid 8 euro for 6 hours to store everything so all I carried was my book bag around the city.

Here are the things I was able to see in a 9 hour layover in Copenhagen! This was roughly 5-6 hours in the city.

1. The Little Mermaid

2. Nyboder

I ran into this cute strip of homes on my way to The Little Mermaid. It is a historic row house district of former Naval barracks that they renovated into residential homes.

3. Rosenburg Castle

This is a quick 5-10 minute walk from the Copenhagen Central Station.

4. Kastellet

You can cut through the park here and visit the St. Alban’s Church. Around the way I found this cute coffee scooter and picked up a double shot cortado : )

5.Kings New Square

6. Christiansborg Palace

The Danish Parliament, the Supreme Court, and the Ministry of State sits here at the Christiansborg Palace.

7. Nyhavn

Save this gem of a neighborhood for last! There’s a train station close by that will take you straight to the airport. You can finish up the day here with drinks and dinner.

A gift/souvenir to myself was buying a Danish brand book bag called Rains. I love how minimal and durable they are! I needed a good waterproof book bag for my travels.

You really don’t need to bike (or even take the train) to see these places! I walked the entire day and saw every corner of the city. It was soooo beautiful. I can’t wait to go back to visit longer. Have any favorites from Copenhagen? Share below!
